No one has seen success as fast in this industry as Leesa mattresses. Who would have even thought that a brand launched in 2015 will have such a huge impact on the industry and will challenge so many existing names this effectively?
Or maybe it was all a hype and Leesa is nothing more than good publicity?
To get into the depth of this matter, we tried two of the most famous Leesa foams, the Leesa hybrid foam, and Leesa signature foam. Here is a detailed review of both the products with quick points to help you as well.
If you want to take a look at the competitors, here is a list of 7 best mattresses.
About the Company
Leesa is a very progressive brand that was officially launched in 2015 and since then, they have been participating in many charitable projects like the one-ten project where on a sale of each 10 mattresses, one was donated in charity.
Similarly, Leesa was a partner in other campaigns and partnerships including West Elm and Third Sheets. All this contributed to the sudden boost in this company’s popularity. But are the products really worth it? Let’s dig in!
Mattress Under Consideration
For today, I decided to review one of the most popular mattresses from Leesa. I had heard a lot about the super plush feel of this mattress and being a fan of plush feel on my bed, I was really excited to try it.
Spoiler alert: The Leesa 10 inch memory foam mattress is not plush, rather it is medium firm. But there are certain amazing features that make this one of the most famous mattresses in the market.
The Leesa 10 inch Memory Foam Mattress
This one is the signature mattress released by the company that gained a lot of attention. Like many other leading brands, this mattress uses a combination of different types of foams to serve different purposes. To begin with the outermost comfort layer, there are 2 different materials used in it.
A top layer made with 3 PCF LSA200 polyfoam and a second comfort layer made with 3 PCF memory foam. The inner support core is made with 1.8 PCF polyfoam to give durability and strength to the foam.
Its total thickness is around 10 inches and it has a medium plush or medium-firm feel (Because it’s somewhere between a firm and plush.). Its cover is made with polyester and Lycra® spandex, and according to my experience and the review I read online from other people, this is a fairly comfortable and durable mattress. Now, let us examine each of these special features in detail.
We have already talked about the materials this mattress is made up of. Contrary to popular belief, Leesa mattress is not a super plush one to sleep on but it is not on a very firm side either. If anyone lies down on it, they would feel the support of memory foam and it also relieves the pressure points. If you are used to sleeping on very soft mattresses, this one will work fine for you too.
Leesa’s last model did not have the outermost memory foam layer, which is new to the updated version. Although I find memory foams quite fascinating, I loved this one particularly because I literally felt like it took the shape of my body. Hence in terms of firmness, the Leesa 10-inch mattress is a complete yes. (This is totally a personal preference; your choice might be different.)
This is indeed a limiting quality for any mattress, so I did my research and tested the mattress for myself too. So I’ll explain how I felt while laying in different positions. I am not the type of person who can define one sleeping position as the most comfortable one, and I was looking for a mattress that is suitable for all types of sleeping positions instead of a specific one.
So, this is what I think.
- Back: So this is the most basic position and it HAS to be very comfortable. One thing that many people find very annoying is when they get all sunk into their bed. I know everyone wants the bed to be very soft but not so soft that you feel like you can’t even move. But this medium-firm feeling of Leesa mattress is so unique and perfect. You will feel a great amount of support and instant relief from pressure, and at the same time, you can move around in your bed without feeling like you are somehow stuck in it.
- Side: This is a complicated position especially when we look at it in reference to this mattress. Since it is a bit on the firmer side, I felt some pressure building around my neck and hips. It is okay for me since I do not sleep on the side a lot and even if I did, a pillow can help me out in relieving pressure too. But for the people who like to sleep on the side; this mattress might not be the best option.
- Stomach sleeping: This one is also an important part of my daily sleeping routine. But the funny part is that sleeping on the stomach has a totally different requirement as compared to sleeping on the side. You need a firm mattress to sleep on stomach otherwise you can feel extreme pressure on your spine. Luckily Leesa’s firm support makes it a winner here again.
I am lucky that I sleep alone and honestly speaking I cannot even imagine any disturbance or movement in my bed while I am sleeping. However, for some people out there who do not like any unnecessary movement but have to share the bed with a partner, motion transfer is a very important aspect to look at.
So, I tested it with the help of a friend and I wasn’t very happy with the ability of this mattress to cancel out motion. It has a very bouncy feel and it stays for some time too. So, if you are worried about waking up in the middle of the night because your partner moves a lot, this one is not your deal. But for singles like me, it’s defiantly a catch. (Side note, bouncy beds are fun to sleep on too.)
Take my word for it, the body heat is annoying! At least for me, it is. When you are sleeping and suddenly your mattress makes you super sweaty, I remember waking up in the middle of the night due to this problem. Also, the women who are prone to get hot flashes would hate a mattress that increases the sleeping temperature. But luckily Leesa mattress is not one of them.
This mattress effectively keeps you cool and lowers the sleeping temperature, which is great if you want a very comfortable and undisrupted sleep. In this specific matter, Leesa 10 inch foam mattress is a complete yes!
I have faced this problem a lot, especially when I used to share my bed with my siblings. A dent in your mattress can make your body sore in the morning due to uneven pressure distribution and if this happens soon, you will have to change your mattress to be healthy again. As expensive as a mattress is, we would want to invest in something that is durable yet soft and plush.
The Leesa mattress that I bought hasn’t started showing any such signs yet, but according to some online reviews, if your weight is more than 200 pounds you might be in trouble. One of the reviews stated that a couple bought this mattress when the husband weighed 230 pounds and the wife weighed 115 pounds.
Within the next few months, the husband’s side had a dent however the wife’s side was just like new. When they switched sides, the same happened again. So, in conclusion, Leesa’s mattress is not for plus-sized people.
Now comes the good part. Leesa hasn’t created such a positive image in a short time without any reason. The company wants to satisfy their customers and they are very serious about it. That is why they are promoting the idea that you do not fall in love in one night (Witty!!) Hence, they are giving you 100 nights to fall in love with their 10-inch memory foam mattress.
If you do not feel like this mattress is working for you after 100 nights you can easily return it and get a full refund. I haven’t decided yet whether I want the mattress or not, and even if I do, I still have some time to return it and get my money back.
People who are used to bed sheets do not find this important but I think this one is the most important part of your mattress too. A mattress cover can be very breathable and comfy or it can be very uncomfortable to sleep on even if the mattress itself is comfortable. Keep this idea in mind!
Thankfully Leesa’s 10-inch memory foam mattress comes with a luxury iconic 4 strip mattress cover. It is super breathable and it doesn’t have tapered edges so that you can sleep even on the edge without feeling uncomfortable.
I think Leesa has come up with a fairly amazing mattress and since a perfect mattress is a very subjective thing, I think this one is suitable for many people but for some, it won’t work. To make the choice easier for you, I have made a list of people who would and would not want this mattress as a conclusion of this review.
If you are one of the positive lists, Leesa is your thing, However, if you are in the negative list, maybe you need to get something else.
Who should get this mattress?
1. People who love bouncy beds
It gives your bed a funky bouncy feel. Some people are really fond of it and if you are one of them, this is your deal. The mattress gives you some serious bounciness along with a comfortable sleep.
2. Back and stomach sleepers
It is great for back sleepers and stomach sleepers because it has a firm feel. Your spine will be perfectly aligned in these positions and you’ll get maximum support which will reduce pressure points on your body.
3. People who like lower sleeping temperature
It is efficient in managing body temperature and gives you a soothing and cool sleeping experience. Good for people who like the slight coolness. As an added bonus, this mattress will prevent you from sweating while sleeping.
4. You are not heavier than 200 pounds
If you are a slim or average weighted person, this mattress will suit you a lot. Its bounciness will be long-lasting, and you will be able to enjoy a durable and plush feeling while sleeping.
5. You are looking for a mid-range mattress
All these amazing features at this price are very fair and the credit goes to Leesa for their consideration. This mattress will not put a huge dent in your pocket like the others. If you are on a budget and specifically looking for a cheaper mattress, this is your fairest bargain.
Who should not get this mattress?
1. You are annoyed by motion transfer
No, there is no special technology used in this mattress that can absorb motion. If you are annoyed by the movement of your partner in the middle of the night, don’t expect Leesa mattress to control its bounciness.
2. You are overweight
It is clear that this mattress can lose its durability for users heavier than 200 pounds. If you are heavy, find something other than this one.
3. You sleep on your side
If you are a frequent side sleeper, Leesa’s 10-inch memory foam mattress will not be an ideal choice due to its firmness. It might not give you that side support needed to reduce pressure points.
